The Old Lady in Our Class

班里的银发同学

On the first day of school our teacher introduced himself and challenged（强烈建议） us to get to know someone we didn't already know.

开学第一天，老师做了自我介绍，然后鼓励我们主动去认识新同学。

I stood up and looked around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.

一只手轻轻地触碰我的肩膀时，我站起来环顾四周。

I turned around to find a little old lady with a warm smile. She said, "Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I'm sixty-seven years old."

转身看到一位女士，脸上挂着暖心的微笑，她对我说：“ 你好，帅哥。我叫罗斯，今年67岁。”

"Why are you in university at such a YOUNG age?" I asked.

我问道：“您这么 ‘年轻’ 怎么还来上大学呢？”

She replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of kids, and then retire and travel."

她回答：“我想在这里遇到富有的丈夫，跟他结婚，生两个孩子，之后退休旅游。”

I knew she was joking. I was curious what might have encouraged her to be taking on this challenge at her age.

我知道她在开玩笑，我很好奇是什么原因使她在这个年纪接受这项挑战。

"I always dreamed of having a university education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.

她告诉我：“我一直想上大学，现在我有了这个机会。”

We became friends. Every day we would talk nonstop after class.

我们成为了朋友，每天上完课后，聊个不停。

I always enjoyed listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me. And Rose easily made friends wherever she went.

我总是很喜欢听 “时光机“ 分享她的智慧和经历。罗斯无论在哪都能轻松交到朋友。

At the end of the term we invited Rose to make a little speech.

期末的时候，班级邀请罗斯做了一场小演讲。

She cleared her throat and began,

"We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. I've learned a few secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success.

”我们不会因为年老就停止玩乐，但我们会因为停止玩乐而变老。我学会了一些保持年轻、幸福和成功的秘诀。

You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die."

你要每天开怀大笑，找些乐子。你要有梦想，一旦你没了梦想，心灵就会死去。

There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability.

变老与长大有很大的差别。每个人都会变老，变老不需要任何天赋和能力。

The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change."

真正重要的是，要想长大，就要一直寻求进步的机会。
